kish answer: Destroyed? No, but it has had an interesting effect. Like everything there are positives and negatives. An upside is it connects people around the world together. Even if it's mostly just virtual, you can still interact with more people and have an easier time of it. The amount of information that can be quickly shared and accessed is incredible and useful.
The anonymity the internet provides often allows people to be more open and honest. For example, I'm not nearly this talkative in real life, but online it's a different story. Others too are often different online than in reality, it's simply easier to interact here and express yourself, particularly for more introverted people.
Negatives are of course we get so used to that anonymity that it's easy to lose touch with socializing in person. There's more to communication than just talking, reading someone's emotions and body language is equally important and that's not possible online. People tend to forget that, but the result is if you spend a lot of time in the online world, your people skills may fall short (that's just a generalization, it can vary by person of course).
Yin and yang man, the Internet is a fantastic tool, but has ups and downs. It's already well ingrained into our society, to the point that the line between the online and real world is rather blurred. I find it interesting though! Certainly something that can be debated about easily.
